By 8:20 a.m. I had done laundry, finished dishes, made the beds, fed and dressed everyone - myself included! - and even packed for the transition to preschool/day care/work that was to happen later in the day (or so I thought... more on that). I even got to play with the boys. I guess it helps when Special K is up at 4:30 a.m. to eat (and thankfully falls back asleep), Thing One wakes up at 5 and Thing Two is up at 5:30. Yes, starting the day that early is bound to make a person productive.
Then at 11, the wheels started to fall off the bus. We had to get out the door by 11:55 to get everyone where they needed to go on time, including errands. Boys had been given lunch, Maba ate too, and clean up was done. Special K got sad and fussy, ready to nap. She wouldn't go down and fussed more and more, so I nursed, hoping that would do the trick.
Nope.
Nada.
Still awake.
Then the phone rang and I picked it up b/c it was a favorite neighbor/friend of mine. We talked while I finished nursing and changed into work clothes and tried to keep Special K quiet. That conversation over, I went out to the living room to find Things One and Two had taken out the vacuums and broom in an attempt to "clean" the floors, all the while making a complete mess of the front closet and knocking down picture frames from the shelves. After a couple "Sorry Maba"s and a quick clean-up, I got stuff thrown in the car and put on the coats and in their car seats and off we went... 10 minutes later than I wanted we were driving to day care. Late, but on the way.
Once there, dropped off Thing Two (bye Maba, no look, nothing) and Special K, still awake (what is that about?!). I realized I forgot Awesome Husband Mark's car keys (#1-keep count here), as he needs those because we change cars before I go to work. So I run home and grab his keys and then off to school.
On the way, I realize I forgot my cell phone (#2-arrrrghhh!!). Oh well I think. Then I get to Thing Two's preschool and the secretary stops me and asks, Did your day care get a hold of you? (Me: No - I don't have the cell phone!) Oh, you forgot to bring milk (#3) for Special K. She needs milk before you go to work.
Me: SH*%#!
Yes - let that one fly in the ECFE office. Way to go Maba!
So I am losing my mind. Wonderful Thing Two still loves me and goes to his class completely oblivious to my drama. Awesome Husband Mark gets to hear me ramble about losing it while freezing in the parking lot. I call work and cancel my first appt because I am so not going to be on time. Thankfully it is an easy one to reschedule for later in the day.
Back to the house I go for the phone and milk (and my mind#6?) and I see on the kitchen counter that I also left the breast pump (#4) and my food (#5) for later that day.
I breathe.
Say a prayer.
And go get a coffee.
