the rest of the story

The rest of our weekend has been a mix of good/bad/ugly.
On Sunday Mark went to play guitar at a retreat for the day.
I took the kids into the cities to hang out with Grandpa Bob and the Aunt Linda & Uncle Lee. Plus, we were meeting up with Thing One from his sleepover with Casey and Luke. It was great seeing everyone and hanging out. Thing One had good fun with his bros, and Thing Two was ready to see him and play. Special K had good smiles for some, tears for others. The worst was that she was tired and would not go down for her nap... maybe I drank too much coffee yesterday?? Anyway, after battling her sadness for over an hour, I waved the white flag and announced that we would be heading back to parts west, because I knew she'd fall asleep in the car seat.
The boys watched Sword and the Stone on the way home - excellent film with good jingles - while I listened to the Three Tenors on my iPod. I haven't quite figured out the rear seat entertainment system in the van in order to enjoy my stuff up front. With one earbud in, I can still enjoy the music, hear calls for Maba and be aware of traffic (or so I like to tell myself). Finally got home and put boys to bed and finally K got sleepy enough (again - she did sleep in the car) to go down for the night. I was in bed by 8:30. Excellent. With only three wake-ups - Awesome Husband Mark announcing that he was making his way home, Thing Two waking and wanting to cry and Special K with more hollering until I got her pacifier in place and she gave up the fight. For sure by 9:30 I had to have been out.
The ugly - we were planning on making our way in to Lee & Linda's yet again today. This time to celebrate Awesome Husband Mark's 49th birthday which is today. Unfortunately, Mark felt Thing One's forehead and decided to take a temp. Oh yes, 104. So there went that plan. Thankfully he has continued to be happy and hasn't shown any other concerning behaviors other than being a toasted cheeser. Last temp at 6 p.m. was 103 and that's an hour after Tylenol. Good God. I made chocolate cake for Mark and we'll just have to have a fun day out some other time. Poor guy, this is the third year in a row that his birthday has been trumped by health issues. Hopefully the big 5-0 will be better.
