Shots anyone?

Desperately I texted Mark this morning.
"Do you think you can get a sub this afternoon?"

"What time?" was the reply.

Well, my miracle worker of a husband (of 7 years today by the way) worked his magic and was able to join our lovely children and myself for a trip to the clinic for a round of H1N1 and seasonal flu for all. Already Thing One was working up his angst over the dread of a needle.

"No honey," I said. "You will be getting the mist up your nose."

"I don't like that either," Thing One said and proceeded to convince me he was NOT going to be joining us.
(Hence the desperate text to the father of these cherubs who gave me such a lovely reputation the last time we visited the clinic).

"You can take care of K when she gets her shots," chimed in Thing Two, "and I'll stay back."

Dad came, we loaded up, and off we went. Within five minutes of leaving the house, Thing Two was zonked. Totally out. Fast, hard and deeply asleep.

We got to the clinic and Two was still out. I carried in our sleeping boy, trying to wake him, but no go. We immediately got called in, sorted out the doses and K was voted to go first, Two last since he was still asleep in my arms.

K got two pokes. She was not thrilled with the second. The silent scream, but she recovers quickly. Always does.  Thing One was next. He bravely laid back as the nurse sprayed the mist up his nose while he held my hand (as I'm still holding Thing Two who is still sleeping). Then the nurse informed us that the boys would get one vaccine as a mist, but had to get the other as a shot since they could not do two mists at once. One obligingly pulled down the pants to get a poke in the leg, still holding on to my hand, and when all was said and done he announced, "Well, that didn't hurt."
(This was the boy last year who I held down with three other nurses... yeah, Mark missed out on that one).

Finally, Thing Two's turn. She sprayed the mist up his nose, both sides.
Still asleep.
I pulled down his pants. She poked him with the shot.
Still asleep.
I carried him out of the clinic, put him in his car seat and buckled him.
Still asleep.
He woke up finally when we got home. No clue that he had a shot or that we even really went anywhere at all...

Now if all doctor visits could go as smoothly...

... and last but certainly never least...
(Happy Anniversary Mark. I am a better person everyday because of you. Our marriage is the best thing I've ever done and the only thing I am the most proud of... I love you. Always.)
