It's officially FALL

And so another Red Rooster Day weekend is done. It was my 10th year. Crazy. Where does the time go?

We saw fireworks... still no need to trim trees, so that made me happy. They were beautiful to watch out our front window, away from mosquitos and K slept through it all. Thing Two did not like that they were close to our house and kept trying to blow them out. He felt he succeeded.

We ran. Katie and Luke got first in their age classes... love that. Unfortunately a 4th place finish for me does not equate a medal, and so there was no Peterson sweep. Motivation for next year; either that or I'll have to go Tanya Harding on some women... (just kidding).

We ate chicken. No pictures of this. Picture for yourself a fussy two year old, a hungry 14 month old, a shockingly picky five year old and a hungry Maba, Dad, Luke and Katie and there you have it. Messy fingers and leftover chicken, all was good.

We said goodbye to Luke who returned to school. At least everyone else did. I was in my Mom zone, knowing they were going home to pack him up and make the 2 hour drive, while I juggled two (with positive emphasis here) "energetic" boys and their sister who needed a nap. I've already talked to Mark about this, but I get in that Mom zone and all other thinking, and awareness, goes out the window. Call it anxiety (yes, physician heal thy self), call it rude, but I completely spaced saying good bye to my stepson. Who does that?! No hug, nothing. I realized this at about 3 p.m. when I realized in my brain, hey Luke went back to college for the fall... Ugh. Big pit in the stomach. So... I owe him some cookies or Toblerone or something. I feel awful. And I miss him. And so do the kids. And his Dad. As he said after dropping him off, it never gets any easier. I am sure he cried as he has all those other years before.

So, back to the festival. The older kids and Dad gone, Maba is left to entertain the troops. Money spent on inflatables is well-spent, though far too quickly. The pedal tractor pull went too fast and I was too busy yelling PEDAL! to stop and snap a picture. (I think he got 4th too). And then a brownie sundae for everyone (except a beloved sleeping K) and then to the classic car show and an up-close look at tractors. Thing Two thankfully went pee in the PortaPotty urinal and thankfully did not pee all over me. He took one look at the toilet in there and yelled GROSS! when he saw the poop. Time to go home and rest and order pizza. (no, it's not poop and then I think Pizza! There was some time in between those events...)

And just for good measure I have to throw in a picture of pasta night from this week. Every Tuesday is pasta night at our house. K is loving it as much as the rest of us.

And we are gearing up for Thing One's debut in Kindergarten. This rite of passage is huge for me and less so for him. He's excited and is so ready for school. I'm afraid of forgetting stuff and dropping the Mom ball. I will forget something eventually, so maybe I should just do it the first day and get it over with. I will get pictures of this event. I swear I will. If I don't forget the camera...
